- Contains material related to the color documentary Tradition, a 1973 release. The film explores the traditional mountain practice of whiskey-making known as “moonshining”. An ex-miner who operates an illegal distillery is interviewed about his work, thoughts on the economic conditions and traditional forces that led him to practice the trade, and why he continues despite having gone to jail in the past for the practice. Also interviewed is a federal revenue agent on the history of moonshining and the methods used by law enforcement to locate distilleries. Includes archival photographs and footage of a still and description of its operation. Subjects include illicit distilling, law and legislation, economic conditions, and rural conditions.
