Contact and Licensing

Please use the form below to submit an inquiry. We will review and respond as soon as possible.

Are you interested in licensing materials from the Archive?

Reuse of Appalshop’s moving images, sound recordings, photographs, paper and other collection materials, including those found on Appalshop and the Appalshop Archive’s websites and social media channels, requires permission. We can help you select material for your project or production.

Appalshop holds the copyrights to the vast majority of its archival holdings, and licensing fees that the Archive charges help to recover the heavy costs of preserving, storing, organizing, and cataloging the collection.

Step 1: Find Your Content
To begin the process, please do your own preliminary research on our website at: www.appalshoparchive.org/. For help identifying and locating content in the archive, please email us at archive@appalshop.org.

Step 2: Contact Us
Please fill out a Contact Form at or email us at archive@appalshop.org to let us know about your project and what you are interested in licensing.

Step 3: Place and Order
If you are interested in licensing content we will send you an order form to fill out along with our standard licensing form. Our team will answer any questions you may have about the licensing process. Licensing fees are calculated based on the intent of use as well as the publication specifications. Film, video and sound licensing fees start at $40/second with an 8 second minimum.

Step 4: Access Your Content
As soon as a signed agreement and payment is received, we will provide you with a master file or files along with the final signed license agreement.
