JA-087D (Charlie Stamper - Glory to the Meeting House CD)
- Description
-
Charlie Stamper (1930-2017) was 84 years old when he released his sole album, Glory To the Meeting House. Older brother to Bluegrass Hall of Famer Art Stamper, Charlie was a master musician in his own right. This album features 29 tracks of solo fiddle, mouth bow, string band music, and snippets of conversation that offer an unprecedented glimpse into a deep-rooted musical heritage that is uniquely Kentucky.
Glory To the Meeting House was co-produced by J.D. Wilkes, leader of Southern-gothic punk band The Legendary Shack Shakers. A fellow Kentuckian, Wilkes discovered Stamper while researching his book "Barn Dances and Jamborees Across Kentucky" and he set out to capture Stamper's spry, often blazing, fiddling.
In his liner notes Wilkes, who plays banjo on the album, writes, "It was an honor, a privilege and a blast for me to play banjo alongside such a master."
