Description
Carla Gover was born in Whitesburg, Kentucky. Her strong grandmother —whom Gover says was her major influence—taught her the mountain ways of not only gardening and cooking, but also of singing and picking. As a student at the university of Kentucky, Gover majored in Appalchian Studies. As she met and played with other musicans, she began to write songs that were rooted in the musical traditions of the mountains where she had grown up. Her original songs range from misty, traditional sounding ballads accompanied by banjo to uptempo pop-influenced songs with a groove. She is a first-place winner of Merlefest's Chris Austin Songwriting Contest as well as the prestigious Kerrville New Folk Award. She often performs as a trio with acoustic bassist JT Cure and multi-instrumentalist Brett Ratliff.

Recordings for JA0072, Hush, My Restless Soul, were made by Micah Solomon at Oasis Studios in College Park, MD and by Gantt Kushner at Gizmo in Wheaton, MD. The release was produced by Mark Schatz, mixed by Kurty Storey of Top of the Hill Recorders in Nashville, TN, and mastered by David Glasser of Airshow Inc. in Springfield IL. Musicans included Carla Gover on vocals; Dudley Connell on vocals and guitar; Tom Adams on banjo; Stuart Duncan on fiddle; David McLaughlin on guitar and mandolin; Lea Ann Miller on harmony vocals; Bruck Molsky on fiddle and fingerstyle guitar; Mark Schatz on clawhammer banjo and mandolin; Steve Seifert on chromatic lap dulcimer; Adrienne Spencer on harmony vocals; Alan O'Bryant on harmony vocals; and Rob Ickes on dobro.
