The Goose Creek Symphony is an American rock band with roots in Arizona and Kentucky. They were formed in 1968 in Phoenix, Arizona as an outlet for the songs of Charlie Gearheart, aka Ritchie Hart, and were best known for their 1972 cover of Janis Joplin's song, "Mercedes Benz." The band recorded their first album at Audio Recorders in 1968-69 and were subsequently signed to Capitol Records in 1970. They continued recording until 1976, then reformed in 1990. The band appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show with Bobbie Gentry and shared the stage with Jimi Hendrix and The Allman Brothers Band among others at the 1970 Atlanta Pop Festival. Charlie Gearheart performed on American Bandstand as Ritchie Hart in 1959. At the time of their June Appal release, the Goose Creek Symphony was comprised of Charles "Charlie" Gearheart on vocals, acoustic guitar, percusion and piano; Paul "Pearl" Spradlin on electric guitar, dobro and vocals; Bob "Willard" Henke on acoutic and electric guitar, bass, piano, synthisizer and vocals; Dennis "Turk" Kenmore on drums and percussion; Pat "Froggy" Moore on bass; Jon "Jean Pero" Parry on fiddle; and Chris Mostert on saxaphone.

Recordings for JA0063C, Oso Special, were recorded and mixed by Bob "Willard" Henke. Additional recording engineers included Ernie Winfrey, Dave Brown and Tim Hunnicutt. Additional mixing engineers included Ernie Winfrey and Tim "Rocko" Rock. Recordings were made at Vintage Recorders in Phoenix, AZ, The Nashville Connection in Nashville, TN, L.A. Studios in Los Angeles, CA, and Hunnicutt Studios in Phoenix, AZ. Mastering was performed by Roger Siebel and Bob "Willard" Henke at SAE Digital and Analog Mastering Services in Phoenix, AZ. Oso Special was released in 1990. Musicians included the Goose Creek Symphony, as well as guests Kenny Skaggs on mandolin, Liza Martin on vocals, Mickey McGee on drums, Ron Livingston on vocals and piano, Matt McClure on vocals, Bruce Leland on banjo, and Aubrey Diefick on harmonica.
