JA-61 (Owen "Snake" Chapman - Fiddle Ditty)

Description: Owen 'Snake' Chapman was born in 1919 near Canada in northeastern Kentucky. His initial influences were his father and the older players he met around Williamson (notably Ed Haley). He played first with Clayton and Russell West as the Kentucky Redbirds and then with Molly O'Day and her brother Cecil. In the 1960s Chapman played bluegrass music, but later rediscovered the music of his father's generation and become involved in the old-time music revival.

Recordings for the 1990 release JA0061, Fiddle Ditty, were recorded in January 1990 at the Appalshop Studio in Whitesburg, Kentucky. The release was engineered and mixed by Kelly Blair and Don Mussell, and produced by D. Gregory White. Musicians included Owen "Snake" Chapman on fiddle, Steve Cooley on guitar, Don Mussell on bass, Phil Sexton on bass, Paul Smith on banjo, Al White on mandolin, and Dennis White on guitar.

This audio collection consists of original 1/2-inch recordings,and ¼-inch production masters.
