Description
James "Pigmeat" Jarrett, a barrelhouse blues pianist, was born in Cordele, Georgia in 1905. He was a "Geechee," a son of a member of the Gullah (an African tribe that settled on islands off the coast of the Carlinas and Georgia). His family moved to Cincinnati's West End in 1912. He played at houses and speakeasies during Prohibition years, but eventually retired from music because of a heart ailment. In his elder years he was rediscovered and celebrated, and obtained a regular gig playing at Arnold's Grill in Cincinnati, as well as performed at folk festivals in the region and Canada. Jarrett died September 5, 1995 at age 95.

Recordings for JA0035, Look At The People, were recorded and engineered at Watson Recital Hall, University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music on July 18-19, 1979. The release was produced by Steve Tracy. Musicians included James "Pigmeat" Jarrett on piano and vocals, Ed Thompson on electric guitar, and Steve Tracy on Harmonica.
