Betty Smith - For My Friends of Song (JA-018)

Description: Betty Smith is a music scholar and singer who accompanies herself on dulcimer, guitar and psaltery. The psaltery is a rare plucked instrument that is a forerunner of the harpsichord and piano. She has been recorded by Folk Legacy Records, June Appal Recordings, Bluff Mountain Music, and Children's Music Workshop. She can also be heard on recordings from Berea Celebration of Music, Fiddler's Grove, Galax Fiddler's Convention, Asheville Dance and Folk Festival, and the Georgia Folklife Festival. Smith has been the recipient of numerous ballad and dulcimer awards and in 1982 was awarded the Bascom Lamar Lunsford Award for significant contributions to the folk traditions of the southern mountains.
