Buell Kazee (August 29, 1900 - August 31, 1976), born in Burton Fork, Kentucky, was an American country and folk singer. He recorded for Brunswick Records in the late 1920s and was later pastor of a church in Morehead, Kentucky for 22 years. He experienced a career comeback during the American folk music revival of the 1960s due in part to his inclusion on Harry Smith's landmark release Anthology of American Folk Music. He made joint appearances with other former folk stars like Dock Boggs, Clarence Ashley and Doc Watson at the Newport Folk Festival. He also wrote and published three books.
Recordings for JA009, Buell Kazee, made by Mark Wilson, Buell Kazee, and Kentucky Educational Television, were compiled and produced by Jonathan Greene, Loyal Jones and John McCutcheon. The release was mixed by Jack Wright and Jeff Kiser and edited by John McCutcheon. The album was preserved and re-released by the Appalshop Archive in 2007. Remastering was performed by Maggard Studios in Big Stone Gap, VA, and included bonus material.
