- Description
-
The Mountain Musicians' Cooperative, closely associated with staff and friends of Appalshop in Whitesburg, Kentucky, recorded JA006, Brown Lung Coton Mill Blues, to raise money for the Carolina Brown Lung Association - a group of cotton textile workers devoted to seeking compensation for those disabled by brown lung or byssinosis and to clean up mills. Members of the Musician's Cooperative included Beth Bingman, Tina Bledsoe, Tom Bledsoe, Charlotte Brody, Guy Carawan, Roger Hall, Jesse and Simon Kahn, Si Khan, Rich Kirby, Jeff Kiser, John McCutcheon, Jon Sundell, and Jack Wright.
JA006 was recorded and engineered at the JuneAppal Studios in Whitesburg, KY by Jack Wright, Jeff Kiser and Bob Drake. A later reprinting of the release had an alternate album cover (with a Lewis Hine photograph) and included some minor new re-recording of musical accompaniment by Rich Kirby.
This audio collection consists of original 1/2-inch field recordings, ¼-inch production masters, and ¼-inch rough mixes.
