Description (The 1981 release Hand Carved profiles master chairmaker Chester Cornett and documents the making of one of his unique rocking chairs. The film traces the hand made process from cutting down a tree on the site of his family home in Appalachia, to the transport of wood to his home and shop in Cincinnati. He chops, whittles and carves an eight-legged double rocking chair as he describes his apprenticeship with his grandfather and uncle, the personal and economic reasons why he left the mountains, and the artisan’s place in a consumer market for mass-produced objects.)
