Scope and Contents
In 2019, cultural worker Joshua Outsey began working with sociologist Dr. William Turner and community leaders Ron and Jill Carson on a collaboration to document Black churches in central Appalachia. With the support of Dr. Turner and the Carsons' Appalachian African-American Cultural Center (AAACC) in Pennington Gap, VA Outsey is developing a centralized database that illuminates connections between Black faith communities across denominational boundaries.
Physical Description
The collection is composed of digital photographs, audio and video recordings made between 2020 and 2022.
